Rescuers from the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW) successfully saved 100 dolphins trapped by low tide in Cape Cod, one of the group's largest rescue operations ever.
Upon arrival, Dr. Sarah Sharp found over 100 dolphins stranded in the Herring River, far more than the initially reported 10. The area’s geography often traps dolphins, but usually in smaller numbers.
The rescue, involving 150 people including IFAW staff, volunteers, and local groups, lasted from morning to night. Despite the efforts, 25 dolphins did not survive. The team continues to monitor the tagged dolphins to ensure they reach deeper waters safely.
