Despite efforts to maintain stock levels, the organization struggles to meet its yearly goal of collecting 90,000 kilograms of pet food.

This scarcity is particularly acute in regions like the Okanagan, where wildfire threats compound the challenge. While demand surges in places like Kelowna and Vernon, the Vernon SPCA, although its office is closed, continues its food bank program through partnerships with local organizations. Waters emphasizes that these donations are crucial for supporting both emergency response efforts and families struggling to feed their pets amidst financial hardship.
