Staff at the BC SPCA Comox branch are celebrating the adoption of Oso, a four-year-old Kangal shepherd dog and German shepherd mix, after nearly 300 days in their care. Oso had a challenging past, spending most of his early years chained outdoors.
Despite his long stay, SPCA staff never lost hope of finding him a permanent home.Stephanie Arkwright, manager of the Comox animal centre, expressed their commitment to finding Oso a family, involving him in seasonal photoshoots and media features to increase his visibility. The community rallied around Oso, even celebrating his birthday with donations of treats and toys. After catching the eye of Jonathan through social media, Oso found his match. Jonathan, mourning the loss of his previous dog, immediately bonded with Oso’s affectionate nature. Their connection was evident, leading Jonathan to adopt Oso and integrate him into his life, describing Oso as a "cuddle-bug" and his new best friend.Arkwright shared the bittersweet moment of Oso's departure, as staff bid farewell to a beloved companion they had grown attached to. Jonathan and Oso now enjoy adventures together, marking the beginning of a special friendship.
