Last fall, B.C. SPCA officers seized over 175 animals on Vancouver Island in one of the province’s largest animal seizures. Confiscated animals included dogs, cats, goats, and chickens.
The owners now face charges of causing unnecessary pain or suffering to an animal, with a court appearance set for May 28 in Duncan. Despite an appeal, the couple remains under bail conditions prohibiting animal custody. They were ordered to pay over $88,000 for the animals' care. Many animals had health issues due to inadequate shelter and sanitation, and some were euthanized due to critical conditions.
