Published Jun 11, 2024 at 4:00am
The owner of this pickup owes his life to one of his dogs, who helped after he lost control in Oregon's mountains, tumbling into a ravine.
Injured but alive after the crash on US Forest Service Road 39, Brandon Garrett's dog ran 4 miles through wilderness and trails to a nearby campsite where Garrett's family was staying. Concerned about his absence, they alerted authorities upon seeing the dog. Meanwhile, Garrett managed to crawl 100 yards from the vehicle and spent the night nearby. Search efforts located him the next morning, with Baker County Search and Rescue using ropes and chainsaws to reach and evacuate him. Thanks to his dog's actions, Garrett received timely medical attention, underscoring the invaluable role animals can play in emergencies.
