The Hamilton-Burlington SPCA is expanding its presence on Hamilton’s east Mountain. The animal welfare charity will construct a 53,820-square-foot building adjacent to its existing shared headquarters with the city’s animal services department on Dartnall Road.
The city’s committee of adjustment recently approved land-use permissions for the two-story animal shelter, veterinary clinic, and offices. CEO John Gerrard emphasized the need to expand veterinary and animal shelter services to meet growing demand within the City of Hamilton. While specific details about timelines and costs remain undisclosed, the expansion aims to provide comfortable working space, lunchrooms, common areas, additional shelter capacity for animals, and an expanded clinic. Councilor Tom Jackson expressed support for the SPCA’s expansion plans, recognizing the organization’s evolving role in the community.
