As the first heat wave of the year continues across Canada, pet parents are reminded to leave their animals at home.
Waterloo police have responded to 10 calls for pets left in vehicles this month, warning that car interiors can quickly become dangerously hot. The Guelph Humane Society has handled 20 similar cases, with most occurring recently. Executive director Lisa Veit emphasizes that pets left in hot cars risk heat stroke and death, urging owners to keep pets at home in cool spaces. The "Love Means Leaving Me at Home" campaign advises shorter walks during cooler times to ensure pet safety.
