Syed Hassan, who runs the non-profit Love with Humanity Association, helps Calgarians struggling to feed their pets. The association recently opened an outdoor pet food bank at the Albert Park/Raddison Heights Community Association hall in southeast Calgary. Since 2018, Hassan's organization has established 14 small outdoor food banks and 39 little free libraries around Calgary.
The food banks, operating from custom-designed cabinets, offer donated items 24/7. Debbie Todd, a visitor to the new pet food bank, says it has been a lifesaver for feeding her dogs, Violet and Bacardi. "It's an absolutely fantastic idea," she said, expressing relief and gratitude for the support during tough times.
