According to findings from a survey conducted among over 1,000 Canadians, a significant majority, accounting for 72 percent of respondents, voiced their support for the implementation of a ban within Canada's code of practice to prohibit the caged confinement of laying hens. This widespread sentiment underscores a growing concern among the public regarding the welfare and ethical treatment of poultry in the agricultural industry.
The company engaged in conversations with consumers from various regions across Canada, with 97 percent of them confirming their consumption of eggs. Following this, participants were presented with images and explanations of different housing systems for laying hens, and were then asked to express their opinions on their acceptability.
Of those surveyed, 80 percent expressed disapproval of conventional cages, while 75 percent indicated that they found enriched or colony cages to be unacceptable.
