Three Animals Euthanized Due to Injuries Sustained at Calgary Stampede

Published Jul 9, 2024 at 4:00am
In just four days of competition at the 2024 Calgary Stampede, three animals have died due to injuries sustained during chuckwagon races and the rodeo.
On Monday, a steer injured during the steer wrestling competition was euthanized after a veterinarian assessed it at the scene. Two horses, part of teams led by Chance Thomson and Danny Ringuette, were also euthanized following injuries in the chuckwagon races. The Vancouver Humane Society has criticized the events, citing these incidents as reasons to end the competition. The Calgary Humane Society also expressed opposition to the use of animals in high-risk events, urging people to voice their concerns to the Stampede and their MLAs for legislative change.
