As summer kicks off, a heat dome over Windsor-Essex is already bringing scorching temperatures reminiscent of midsummer.
Melanie Coulter from the Windsor-Essex County Humane Society advises that dogs, unable to sweat like humans, rely on panting to cool down. She suggests adjusting walks to cooler morning or evening hours and keeping dogs mentally stimulated indoors with activities like puzzle toys.
Coulter also warns of hot pavements potentially burning paw pads and stresses the importance of always having water available for pets. She strongly urges against leaving animals in hot cars, emphasizing the danger of overheating even in a short period.
