Toronto Wildlife Centre rescues deer trapped in Pickering wastewater facility

Published Feb 5, 2025 at 10:00pm

Last Friday, January 31st, 2025, Toronto Wildlife Centre’s team rushed to a municipal wastewater treatment facility in Pickering to carry out a difficult emergency rescue… an adult male white-tailed deer had become trapped in a 30-foot deep settling tank filled with sewage. The buck had exhausted all his energy trying to escape, but managed to make it to a shallow overflow spot. The walls were too high for him to leap out, and the poor animal was wet, filthy, shivering from the winter cold and at risk of hypothermia… or being spooked back into the large pool of wastewater that surrounded him.
