Woman given lifetime animal ban in Canada after 12 horses found dead on property

A New Brunswick woman, Charlotte Bright, has been given a lifetime ban on owning animals and ordered to pay nearly $8,000 in restitution after pleading guilty to three animal welfare charges.
The case involved the deaths of 12 horses on her farm in Currieburg, N.B. SPCA officers found five underweight horses, 12 dead horses, and a barn in disrepair, with provincial veterinarians confirming the surviving horses were emaciated and dehydrated.Bright's sentence includes a 24-month conditional sentence order, a 12-month probation period, and a lifetime ban enforceable across Canada. Additionally, animal protection officers are authorized to conduct unannounced visits to her premises. The surviving horses were placed in foster care, and numerous cats were removed and rehomed.
