Eligibility for full voting membership at Humane Canada is based on agreement to the following criteria:

  1. Agrees to Humane Canada representing members at the national level and to support our strategic goals and objectives.

  2. Is a registered not-for-profit or charity incorporated under the name Humane Society or SPCA for a minimum of 3 years, either provincially or federally in Canada, with a board that is independent of its staff.

  3. Is prepared to act in accordance with Humane Canada by-laws, including payment of dues.

  4. Promotes and demonstrates a humane discourse philosophy.

  5. Supports industry-recognized standards and guidelines.

  6. Objective in promoting progressive improvement of animal welfare.

  7. A recognized/credible voice in its community.

  8. Law-abiding; functions within the law.

  9. Supports Humane Canada's willingness to work with any organization with the goal of improving animal welfare.

  10. Operates in an ethical manner with integrity, transparency and accountability.

  11. Appoints and certifies a “representative” to act on its behalf in all Humane Canada business. A representative is a senior-level employee involved in the day-to-day operations of your organization, fully empowered to represent, vote, and act for your agency in all Federation matters, proceedings, and activities.
