Early Thursday morning, a two-storey home in Transcona sustained severe damage in a fire incident.
Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to the blaze in the 500 block of Kanata Street, where heavy smoke and flames were observed upon arrival. Fortunately, occupants had evacuated on their own, and no injuries were reported. Firefighters initially attempted an interior attack but conditions worsened, prompting a shift to defensive tactics using an aerial ladder truck. The fire, which was eventually brought under control by 5:30 a.m., necessitated the use of a drone to locate hotspots. While the blaze caused significant smoke, fire, and water damage to the house, three cats remain missing, prompting residents to contact the Winnipeg Humane Society if found.
