Humane Canada is pleased to announce the appointment of Meg Krueger as our next Chief Executive Officer, effective October 26, 2026. Meg’s appointment marks an exciting new chapter for our organization as it builds on more than 15 years of leadership under Barbara Cartwright and advances its national role in strengthening animal welfare, supporting the human-animal bond, and bringing the sector together around shared action.
Meg joins Humane Canada with extensive experience in national federation leadership, strategic planning, organizational development, operations, business development and partnership growth. She will begin her role on October 26, with a transition and knowledge-transfer period before Barbara's retirement at the end of the year.

Most recently, Meg served as Chief Executive Officer of Equestrian Canada, where she led the national federation through a period of change and modernization. Her leadership focused on strategic planning and execution, strengthening governance and organizational effectiveness, fostering collaboration across provincial and sector partners, and expanding sponsorship, partnership and philanthropic capacity.
Animal welfare has been an important focus throughout Meg's career. At Equestrian Canada, she helped advance equine health and welfare through national policy, standards, education and evidence-based initiatives, including work that supported the recognition of horses as sentient beings. Her broader sector experience includes service on the Board of the National Farm Animal Care Council and contributions to agricultural organizations at both the local and national levels, giving her a strong understanding of the complex systems, partnerships and practical realities that shape animal welfare in Canada.
