Humpback Whale's Death in Nova Scotia River Sparks Climate Change Concerns

Published Jul 4, 2024 at 4:00am

The death of a humpback whale in Nova Scotia's Stewiacke River and recent whale sightings are raising climate change concerns.

Tonya Wimmer, executive director of the Marine Animal Response Society, noted unusual species appearances, including a humpback whale and bottlenose dolphins, indicating ocean changes. The whale, initially found alive, struggled in the river before dying. An endangered blue whale was also spotted in St. Marys Bay. Wimmer emphasized that warming oceans and shifting food sources could be affecting marine life, sparking alarms about the broader impacts of climate change.
