Seal Pup Rescued in Victoria Following Human Disturbance

On July 4, a seal pup was rescued from Gonzales Beach and is now under the care of the Vancouver Aquarium Marine Mammal Rescue Society (VAMMR).
A concerned individual had reported the pup, but when a VAMMR member arrived, she found someone petting the animal and attempting to pick it up. This common issue of human interference disrupted the assessment and required immediate rescue. The pup, named Salty C., appeared thin with a potential eye issue. Emily Johnson, VAMMR assistant manager, emphasized that wildlife should be left undisturbed, urging the public to contact VAMMR in such situations. Salty C. is now safe and will undergo rehabilitation at the Vancouver Aquarium.
